The Webb City R-7 Schools Foundation, Inc. is proud to honor Jim Dawson as its 2012 Distinguished Citizen. Jim was born in Webb City, MO to Mr. & Mrs. Alfred Dawson. Jim graduated from Webb City High School in 1961. Following High School, he graduated from Joplin Junior College, 1963, and Kansas State College of Pittsburg (now PSU), January 1965. In 1967, he received a Masters in Psychology from PSU. Jim is married to Treva Dawson. They have three sons Brendan, Jonathan and Nathan. They are also blessed with 8 grandchildren.

Following his college graduation:
♦ Taught Social Studies at Carthage Junior High, 2nd semester, 1965
♦ Taught Social Studies at Webb City High School, 1965-1966
♦ Returned to college to earn his Masters degree in Psychology
♦ Served U.S. Army 03-25-1968 to 12-01-1969
♦ Received Meritorious Service Medal 01-16-1969
♦ Returned to business at Morton Booth Company, later known as Dawson Cabinet Furniture
♦ Served on the Board of Education for Webb City R-7 Schools, from 1981-1990
♦ Served as a Director for Merchants & Miners Bank, later to become Mercantile Bank
♦ Member of the Webb City Chamber of Commerce
♦ Member of the Webb City First Baptist Church
♦ Delegate to Washington DC for Conference on Small Business, 1980
♦ Recognized for Economic Development from Gov. Ashcroft, State of Missouri, 1988
♦ Member of the Webb City Library Foundation
♦ Board of Regents, Midwest Baptist Theological Seminary
♦ Member of the PSU Foundation Board
♦ Fundraising Chairman for the YMCA sponsored Heritage Youth Development Center

Jim has been an active member of the Webb City community his whole life. The Foundation is pleased to honor Jim for his tremendous contributions to our community.
