Jim & Karen Latimer

The Webb City R-7 Schools Foundation, Inc. is proud to honor Jim and Karen Latimer as its 2013 Distinguished Citizen.

Jim was born in Carthage, MO to James and Virginia Latimer. He graduated high school from Neosho, MO in 1961 and Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1966. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1967 serving until 1973. During his enlistment, he served active duty in Vietnam for two years. His architecture career began with Allgeier Martin, Joplin; Butler and Associates, Springfield, MO; and A.C. Esterly, also in Springfield, MO. In 1980, Patterson, Latimer, Jones, Brannon, Denham, Inc. was established in Joplin, MO. Jim was able to dedicate his career to building many area schools until his retirement in 2012. Mt. Latimer is proud to be a part of American Institute of Architects, Webb City Bright Futures, Webb City High School A+, Webb City Historic Preservation Committee, Webb City Citizens Advisory Committee, Historical Society of Webb City, and Friends of the Webb City Library. Formerly he was a board member for Webb City Parks and Recreation, Central United Methodist Board of Trustees, President of the Joplin Stamp Club, and a member of the Joplin Board of Appeals.

Karen was born in Noel, MO to Claude Smith and Glendene Eskridge. She graduated high school from Neosho, MO in 1964. She attended the St. John’s School of Nursing and graduated from Crowder College with an Associate of Science degree. In 1985, she began working for the Webb City R-7 School District, becoming the Food Service Director in 1988, retiring in 2009. She is proud to be a part of the Crowder College Foundation Board, Crowder College Fundraising Webb City Campus, Webb City Bright Futures, Friends of the Webb City Library, Webb City Historical Society and P.E.O. Chapter AY. She was formerly on the Central United Methodist Church Executive Board, Girl Scout leader, and Sunday School teacher.

Jim and Karen participate annually in the Cropwalk, volunteer at the Webb City Farmer’s Market, support the Webb City Cardinals athletically and academically and love cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals. They enjoy traveling, reading, working in the yard, attending Central United Methodist Church and spending time with their family.

Family members of Jim and Karen Latimer are daughters Tamara Martin and husband Shaun, Leigh Miller and husband Michael, and Jennifer Parker and husband Eric. They have been blessed with 8 grandchildren, Zachary, Zoe, Caden, Drake, Elijah, Alexandra, Treghan and Briella.

Jim and Karen have been active members of the Webb City community for many years. The Foundation is pleased to honor Jim and Karen for their tremendous contributions to our community.
