The Webb City R-7 Schools Foundation, Inc. is proud to honor Dave Collard as its 2014 Distinguished Citizen. Dave was born and raised in Southwest Missouri. He graduated from Carl Junction High School and received a Bachelors of Science degree in Agriculture from the University of Missouri. Dave joined Farm Bureau Insurance as a career agent in 1975. In 1981, Dave bought the former Webb City Café, located at 2 S. Main and transformed it into office, stating he chose downtown Webb City because he felt the downtown had invested in him when starting his career. In 1989, he was promoted to district sales manager for all of the company’s offices in Jasper, Newton, McDonald, Barry and Lawrence counties. His office was named Farm Bureau’s Agency of the Year in 1990. Recently, Dave retired from a 39-year career with Missouri Farm Bureau. Throughout his career with Farm Bureau, he earned numerous awards and had the opportunity to travel the world. Dave retired to follow his passions of farming, hunting, and enjoying time with his many friends and family.
Dave married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Thompson, in 1972. They have 3 sons, Matthew (Amy), Justin (Heather) and Adam (Jennifer). All 3 sons graduated from Webb City High School. Additionally, they have been blessed with 8 beautiful grandchildren: Kate, Taylor, Hayley, Chloe, Quinn, Houston, Bronson and Stella.
Dave is well known in the community as Santa and fills his December calendar with multiple appearances. Dave’s role as Santa began while still in college, serving as Santa’s helper at Joplin Regional Diagnostic Clinic.
He loves agriculture and thoroughly enjoys sharing the farm experience with children. Each fall and spring, he hosts Our Farm Day for Kids and opens up his farm for children in Kindergarten and Parents as Teachers.
Dave is a current member of the Webb City R-7 School Board, a role he has filled for 25 years. Some of his community service includes National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisory, Jasper County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse, Lion’s Club, Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Ronald McDonald House and supporter of the Jasper County Youth Fair.
Dave loves people and stays busy whether talking to people in the community or serving on committees. He has been an active member of the community in which he lives. The foundation is pleased to honor Dave for his many contributions to the community.
