• 9-11 Grade / Summer Chromebook Information

CAN I TAKE MY CHROMEBOOK HOME FOR THE SUMMER?

    • Yes. Most students have the option to take their chromebook home for the summer.

YOU CANNOT TAKE IT HOME IF:

    • you are currently in check in/check out and/or you have an unpaid repair fee
    • you are moving out of the Webb City School District over the summer
    • you will be homeschooled next year
    • your parents don’t want you to have it over the summer
    • you prefer not to take your device home for the summer
    • you need to have your chromebook repaired over the summer

Chromebooks and chargers should NOT be left in lockers or in classrooms over the summer.

    • If you don’t want to take your device home, bring it to the LMC before you leave for summer break.
    • You can pick up your chromebook in August when you pay your insurance for next year.

I TOOK MY CHROMEBOOK HOME FOR THE SUMMER, BUT I DON’T PLAN TO USE IT MUCH. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO WITH IT?

Storing your chromebook at home for the summer:

    1. Fully Charge
    2. Shut Down
    3. Safe Place
    4. Charge Monthly

Make sure the chromebook is fully charged and then turn it off before storing it.

    • Don’t just close the lid. Make sure you actually shut it down!

Store the device and charger in a safe place away from pets and people. Keep it high and dry.

Most chromebook batteries will run down even when the device is shut off. You need to fully charge your chromebook once a month during the summer to maintain battery health.

    • Letting the battery die completely could result in your device reverting to factory settings. If this happens, your device will be totally unusable and you will need to visit the tech office in the library before school starts to get that fixed.

I’M MOVING OR I THINK I MIGHT BE MOVING TO A DIFFERENT SCHOOL DISTRICT. WHEN SHOULD I TURN IN MY CHROMEBOOK?

    • Turn in your chromebook, charger, and bag on the last day of school after you are finished taking your last summative test.
    • If the chromebook is damaged or vandalized, applicable repair fees will be added to your account and an invoice mailed to your parents.
    • We will keep your chromebook on a shelf until we get an enrollment notice from your new school.
    • If you end up not moving, we will give you back your chromebook when you pay your chromebook insurance for the next school year.

If you leave the Webb City R7 School District without turning in your school issued device, it will be disabled and we will report it as stolen to the local police department.

I DIDN’T KNOW I WAS MOVING THIS SUMMER. WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH MY CHROMEBOOK?

    • Return your Chromebook, bag, and charger to Webb City School District’s Central Office Monday-Thursday between 9:00am and 2:00pm.
      • The Central Office is located directly south of Webb City High School at 411 N. Madison St.
        Webb City, MO 64870.
    • Make sure the chromebook charger is in the bag and you have removed all personal items.
    • If the chromebook is damaged or vandalized, applicable repair fees will be added to your account and an invoice mailed to your parents.

If you leave the Webb City R7 School District without turning in your school issued device, it will be disabled and we will report it as stolen to the local police department.

I DON’T WANT TO TAKE MY CHROMEBOOK HOME THIS SUMMER OR MY PARENTS DON’T WANT ME TO TAKE IT HOME. WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH MY CHROMEBOOK?

    • Make sure your ID card and charger are in the bag.
    • Drop your chromebook off at the Library on the last day of school after you take your last summative test.
    • Fill out the summer storage paper, put it with your device, and put your device on the cart.
    • Pick up your chromebook in August when you pay your chromebook insurance for the next school year.
      • If you pick up your chromebook on the first day of school, your device will not be charged. Please pick it up before the first day of school.

MY CHROMEBOOK NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED. CAN YOU FIX IT OVER THE SUMMER?

Yes! Drop it off at the HelpDesk before you leave for the summer and fill out the repair note.

    • You may pick up your chromebook in August when you pay your insurance.
    • If there is a charge for the repair, the amount of the fee will be emailed to your school account and you will need to pay the repair fee when you pick up your device.

WILL MY CHROMEBOOK ACTIVITY BE MONITORED OVER THE SUMMER?

    • Yes, your Chromebook activity WILL be monitored over the summer.
    • If any flagged activity in violation of the Student Acceptable Use Policy is detected, you will be put into Restricted Access and/or your account will be disabled for the rest of the summer, depending upon the severity of the violation.
      • If you are placed in Restricted Access over the summer, you will need a principal’s permission to be removed. Please be prepared to have a conversation about the violation with one of the Principals when you return to school in August.

WHAT IF MY CHROMEBOOK BREAKS OR HAS OTHER ISSUES OVER THE SUMMER?

What you need to do will depend upon whether or not you are doing school work over the summer:

SUMMER AP HOMEWORK OR SUMMER LAUNCH CLASS:

    • If you are taking a summer Launch class or have summer AP homework, please call 417-673-5065 and leave a message. Make sure you state in the message your name and grade, what’s wrong with your device, a phone number where you can be reached, and mention that you have summer AP homework or a summer Launch class and need your device fixed asap.
      • Broken screens are $20
      • Physically damaged, Lost, or Stolen chargers are $15
      • Non-working chargers are free with exchange.

      • The tech office is very busy during the summer. It may take a while for someone to get back to you.
      • Repair fees will need to be paid in full upon pick up for any chargeable damages.

    SUMMER SCHOOL / CREDIT RECOVERY:

    • If you are attending summer school / credit recovery in June and need tech help, you may visit either the High School Tech Office in the library or the District Tech Office next to Auto Body during the school day. (see map → )
      • Repair fees will need to be paid in full upon pick up for any chargeable damages.
      • The high school tech office in the library is closed from June 15 to July 23.  The district tech office is located downstairs next to Auto Body.

    NONE OF THE ABOVE:

    • If you are NOT doing any type of school work during the summer, shut your device down and put it in a safe place for the rest of the summer. The high school tech office in the library will be open starting Monday, July 26. You can call 417-673-6010 ext. 7007 to set up a time to bring in your device after July 26 or you may also drop it off on August 10 when you pay your chromebook insurance.
      • If you drop off a damaged device in August, we will try our best to get it repaired before school starts. However, this is not guaranteed. The beginning of school is a very busy time for everyone.
      • Repair fees will need to be paid in full upon pick up for any chargeable damages or you can ask to go into temporary daily check-in/check-out until the fee is paid.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY CHROMEBOOK IS STOLEN OVER THE SUMMER?

    • Your parents must file a police report and obtain a copy of it for the school.
    • Inform the district tech department of the theft ASAP at 417-673-6005 or 417-673-5065 so the device can be disabled.
    • Once school starts, you will need to pay the insurance deductible in order to get a replacement device.
      • You have the option to ask to go into temporary daily check-in/check-out until the deductible can be paid.

    SUMMER DOS AND DON'TS:

    • Don’t leave your chromebook in a vehicle, even while at home. Vehicle break-ins are very common.

    • If your Chromebook is lost or stolen over the summer, your parents must file a police report and inform the district tech department at 417-673-6005 so the device can be disabled.

    • Keep your chromebook and charger away from pets and young children.

    • Don’t leave your Chromebook in a hot car or outside in the heat, sun, or rain. Be careful if you are using it near water.

    • If you don’t plan to use your chromebook much over the summer, make sure it is fully charged and turn it off before storing it.

    • Charge your chromebook once a month and also a few days before school starts.

    • If a key pops off, don't pick off the rubber nub that's underneath the key and make sure you don’t bend the metal brackets. We can replace the key as long as the rubber nub and metal brackets are not damaged.

    • In August, start checking your school email, the high school website, and district social media regularly so you don’t miss any beginning of school announcements or events.

    • Your chromebook, bag, and charger will need to be returned to the high school or to the Central Office if you move out of the school district over the summer. If you don’t return the chromebook, we will disable it and report it as stolen to the local police department.

    • Remember that your chromebook, charger, and bag are school property and should not be misused, abused, or vandalized in any way. Having these devices to use year-round is a privilege so please respect that and take good care of your device.
