Bus Rules and Regulations

To help ensure the safety and well-being of all our bus students, we are providing the following rules and guidelines. Please take time to review these items with your child.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Busing requests should be made by contacting the school office. Please be aware that there is a 48-hour delay before transportation is available, depending on where you live. During this time, it is the parents’ responsibility to transport the child. Also, please notify the school office of any address changes throughout the school year.

  • Routes are established based on regulations from the Missouri Department of Elementary andSecondary Education (DESE) as well as our Board of Education policies. Regular Education buses are not to enter cul-de-sacs, dead-end or loop streets, and typically only travel along main thoroughfares.

  • The Webb City School District, in accordance with state regulation, has a school walk zone of 1 mile. This means students residing within 1 mile of their school of attendance are not provided district transportation. Following this guideline, students may also walk up to ½ mile to their bus stop. The safety of your children while walking to, from, and while waiting at the bus stop is the parent’s responsibility.  Please keep in mind, as students change schools, it may impact their ability to utilize district transportation due to walk zones

    • Due to the bus driver operating in conditions beyond their control, such as weather, traffic congestion, road blockages, and mechanical issues, we ask parents:
      • Morning Pick Up
        • Regular Education: Have children at the bus stop 5 to 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time and stay 5 to 10 minutes after the scheduled time.
        • SPED & Early Childhood: Have children at the bus stop 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time and stay 10 minutes after the scheduled time.
      • Afternoon Drop Off
        • Drop-off times are estimates for the same reasons as stated above, and due to the various situations, buses may leave school buildings at inconsistent times.
        • We ask parents to be ready for their child at school dismissal time. As the year goes by, times will become more consistent.
  • For the safety of the student, the Webb City School District limits the number of buses and/or bus stops a student can be assigned. Inconsistent schedules cause confusion for the student, drivers, and teachers who assign students to a bus. However, in special cases, students will be allowed ONE alternate bus and/or bus stop to accommodate daycare/sitter needs. It is always best if students ride the same bus home every day, with the exception of an emergency. Every situation must be approved through the principal of the student’s building.

  • There are several factors that are considered when establishing bus stops. Each stop has been reviewed for student safety; can children cross with good visibility in both directions, do buses and motorists have a good view of the stop from both directions, etc. Unfortunately, for these reasons and several others, buses cannot stop at each home.

  • The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education does not recommend buses entering courts, dead-end streets, or cul-de-sacs for safety reasons. These areas are dangerous due to the large number of children at play, mailboxes, parked vehicles, etc.. and allow minimal space for buses to turn around or to back up.

  • Bus stops are changed regularly to provide the most efficient routes possible. Major changes are implemented during the summer months. However, if a problem or safety issue arises throughout the school year, immediate changes may be necessary. Typically, route/stop change requests are not processed within the first 15 days of school to allow time for route and ridership data to be reviewed.

  • Transportation will be provided once the new subdivision has progressed enough to allow buses to travel safely and consistently through the streets without blockage or the need to maneuver through large construction equipment.

  • Eating and drinking on the bus is not permitted in accordance with the Webb City School Board of Education policies. These policies have been put into effect for the safety of students.

  • Yes, in accordance with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), all school districts must maintain accurate, active ridership rosters. MO DESE defines an active rider as a student who rides at least once a week. Based on this information, the district is required to remove students who are not active riders.

  • In emergency situations, schools may be able to issue a “One-Day Ride Pass” to accommodate students. Please be sure to send notification of this with your student and have them take it to the front office before noon to allow time to process and issue the pass. In some cases, a “One-Day Ride Pass” may not be available due to the location requested not currently being serviced, bus capacity, etc.
